Learn how small changes in your choice of words and the phrasing of sentences, can make you feel more optimistic.

Most of us don’t pay much attention to our choice of words. But change one word, and it can change your expectations and your stress levels. Take for instance the subtle difference between saying “When the waiter brings me my coffee” and “If the waiter brings me my coffee”. That’s the difference between expectation and doubt.

By paying a bit more attention to how we speak, we can change our own mindset from lack to abundance, from powerlessness to empowered, from despair to optimism. It applies to small things like getting a coffee, to the big things like getting a new job.

Minding your words is an easy trick to master, but it can greatly enhance how you feel about yourself and the situations you find yourself in.

What we see in real life, and what we see in our mind’s eye (in other words, what we imagine or visualise) has the same effect on our brains. Real, or imagined, your brain doesn’t know the difference. To me, that sounds like a superpower!

It’s also why vision boards, action boards, and Pinterest mood boards are so popular. But until you add two key things into the visualisation mix, all those lovely images will remain a daydream.
