Reiki Courses in South Africa
Are you thinking of taking a Reiki course?
There are a few things you may want to consider when deciding between different Reiki courses in South Africa:
- Consider why you want to learn Reiki. Is it for personal use, or for future professional practice? Level I courses are primarily seen as being for personal use, followed by Level 2, which is the foundational level for professional practice.
- There are various styles of Reiki you could choose from, however the most important factor when choosing the style of Reiki is whether the Reiki Master has a lineage that can be traced back to Mikao Usui, the founder of the system of Reiki. A lineage is similar to a family tree.
- Another very important factor is whether “attunements,” are given in person. “Attunements” can be compared to spiritual blessings and is the most important aspect in the system of Reiki.
I teach the Usui style of Reiki and my Reiki lineage can be traced back to to Mikao Usui (view it here). As my Reiki courses are always held in person, attunements are always given in person. I am also registered with the Reiki Guild South Africa as a Master Teacher and Practitioner.
I recommend you also watch the video below and read my blog post on What to look for when choosing a Reiki course and Reiki Master. (Please note the price for a Level 1 course has changed since I recorded the video.)
Reiki Level 1 course
This course is for anyone who is drawn to Reiki as a personal healing and self-development tool and lays the foundation of Reiki.
Over the two days of this course, you will receive four Reiki 1 attunements which starts the flow of Reiki energy. You will be able to treat friends and family, and to use Reiki for your own healing and personal development. (Note that you will only be able to set up a professional practice to treat others for a fee, after receiving Reiki Level 2.)
I teach in a relaxed and personal style, and offer students plenty of time to practice the techniques on the other students.
I received my Reiki Master training in the Usui Tradition according to the Japanese and Western styles. I therefore teach Level 1 Reiki Courses in the Usui Tradition and my students are trained in both the Japanese and Western lineages.
The First Degree (Level 1) covers:
- What is Reiki?
- The history of Reiki
- Healing and Reiki (including the mind-body connection and the four levels of Reiki healing)
- Energy and Reiki (including basic energy theory, the chakra system, an the aura)
- Energy cleansing techniques
- How to conduct a Reiki self-treatment
- How to give a Reiki treatment to others
- The different uses of Reiki
- The Reiki Principles
Reiki Level 2 (Practitioner) course
Over the two days of this course you will receive the Reiki Level 2 attunement which introduces the Reiki symbols. In the course you will learn and practice to use of each of the three symbols. It’s a lot of fun, especially when we experience a distance healing session for the first time!
Course requirements: At least three months must have passed since completing Level 1 training to allow your body and mind to adjust to the higher energetic vibrations, and to gain experience in giving Reiki treatments.
Certification: Students will only be issued with Practitioner certificates once they have submitted case studies.
It is not a prerequisite that you received your Reiki Level 1 training with me. As long as you are trained in the Usui style of Reiki, you are welcome to attend my Reiki Level 2 course.
I received my Reiki Master training in the Usui Tradition according to the Japanese and Western styles. I therefore teach Level 2 Reiki Courses in the Usui Tradition and my students are trained in both the Japanese and Western lineages.

Reiki Level 3a (Master Practitioner) course
Being a Reiki Master Practitioner signifies a deep commitment to the Reiki practice and to your spiritual growth.
In the Master Practitioner course we revise, and explore further, everything that was learned in levels 1 and 2. You will also learn new Japanese techniques for energy clearing and treatments. You will receive the Usui Reiki Master attunement and learn and practice to use the Master symbol and its mantra. We also cover the history of Reiki and different Reiki traditions in more depth.
Course requirements: At least 6 months must have passed since qualifying as a Reiki Practitioner. This is to ensure you have gained sufficient experience in giving Reiki treatments and for your awareness of Reiki to increase.
It is not a prerequisite that you received your Reiki Level 1 or Level 2 training with me, but I would want to have a discussion with you to understand what you were taught in your Reiki course. Broadly speaking as long as you are trained in the Usui style of Reiki, you are welcome to attend my Master Practitioner course.

Course requirements: At least one year of being at Master Practitioner level and submission of 30 case studies.
